What the IBAN check validates
The IBAN check validates whether an IBAN is formally plausible. This helps catch input errors in forms, customer master data, invoice data and payment workflows.
Country code, character sequence and country-specific length are checked against known IBAN rules.
The IBAN check digits detect many common typing errors, transposed numbers and incomplete entries.
When bank directories are available, IBAN-Test adds information such as bank name, city or BIC.
Important: A formally valid IBAN does not automatically mean that the account exists or can receive payments. For automated checks in forms, shops and back-office processes, use the API.
