Which tool should I start with?

  • A single IBAN: open the free IBAN checker. Paste the IBAN and read the validation result. A formal validation checks the number; it does not confirm the account holder or whether the account exists.
  • An IBAN from local account details: use the IBAN generator. Select the country and enter the required bank and account details. Use bank-issued account details before making a payment.

What should I do if a check fails?

Compare the number with the IBAN supplied by the bank. Check that no characters or leading zeros were lost when copying it from a document or spreadsheet. The country profiles explain the expected length and segments. Do not guess a correction to a recipient’s account number.

IBAN-Test supports countries where reliable rules and data are available for IBAN structure, check digits and bank data validation.

A basic IBAN format check is possible for many countries. Deeper bank data validation with bank name, city or BIC only makes sense where reliable bank directories are available. We prefer fewer countries with clearer validation quality over broader coverage with uncertain results.
